Program Supports Education and Training Goals

From time to time, employees in the construction industry require training or additional education. The SCCA Construction University Program was established in 2017 to specifically address these needs. Classes and seminars are provided on topics from administration and analysis to management and safety to an effort help Signatory Contractor Members, Allied Members, and Associate Contractor Members achieve their company training and educational goals.

Class is in session

There are many educational opportunities for team members including, first-aid/CPR/AED, asbestos or led awareness, emergency action plans, injury and illness prevention, CARB PERP/DOORS/TRUCRS administration, Qualified SWPPP Professional (QSP) and more. Management classes include job cost data, forecasting, CPM/CPA analysis, fleet management, new technology implementation, and contractor and subcontractor interactions.

Although it is beneficial for members to attend these seminars in person, SCCA understands that schedules can be an obstacle sometimes. In an effort to make such education more accessible, various seminars and speakers are filmed and put into a video library on the SCCA website. Available only to members, some of the recordings currently available for viewing include, AB 1701 – New Wage Liability for General Contractors, California’s Diesel Regulations, andContracts – How to Stay out of Trouble

Funding available

The SCCA assistance program provides limited funding assistance to help offset the costs of individual company education and training programs and classes for its staff and employees. For example, if your company utilized a qualified instruction for a “competent person,” “10-hour OSHA” or “job cost data” training (to name a few of the applicable categories), some if not all of the cost could be reimbursed by the Construction University up to a maximum of $4,950, depending on an established scale based on membership tiers.
To take advantage of this limited funding, companies should be sure to fill out the funding application form. Grant assistance is available to SCCA Contractor Members, Allied Members, Associate Contractor Members, and Signatory Affiliate Member companies. Applications for qualified training and educational courses covered by the program will be evaluated monthly on a case by case basis.
