SCCA Subcommittee Meets Newly Appointed Caltrans Director
Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Dina El-Tawansy as Caltrans Director last year. His press release announcing the appointment can be found by clicking this link.
State law requires some, but not all, governor appointments to be approved by the California State Senate. This confirmation of the governor’s appointment is designed to provide a level of checks and balances within our government. It also gives the public the opportunity to comment and influence the Senate’s consideration.
Not only does the Director oversee the Division of Construction, she also heads the Department that has an annual budget of $20 billion with 22,000 employees. Unlike several previous directors, El-Tawansy is a product of the Department where she’s worked for three decades. She previously served as the Bay Area’s District 4 Director.
Director El-Tawansy was very receptive to SCCA’s concerns during the meet. The SCCA STP is currently considering its position on the Director. Her Senate confirmation hearing is not yet scheduled. Read the full article by clicking below.
