Surveying Fundamentals for Construction

Course Outline

• Basic principles of surveying and field measurements
• Reading and interpreting survey data
• Understanding field notes, site plans, and elevations
• Practical exercises with real-world site examples

MATERIALS REQUIRED

• Hat for sun protection
• Long-sleeve shirt and appropriate outdoor work attire
• Safety glasses or sunglasses
• Measuring tape
• Notepad and pen
• Knee pads (recommended)

Instructor Will Provide:

• Survey stakes
• Chalk and chalk lines
• Buckets (for stake practice)
• Survey instruments (automatic levels, builder’s levels, dot lasers, rotating lasers)
• Laptop for A/V connection to present visuals
• Handouts for participants
• Brief overview of total station concepts (but will not bring this equipment; only discuss as part of the demonstration)
